I think Morey is doing a really good job so far picking up free agents that will add to the team dynamic, and keeping a practical mind for building a bench that can support what already works well for our team.
I highly doubt Kevin Durant is coming to the sixers, and I also think the last thing we should do is include Maxey in a trade package. On paper, yes, Kevin Durant is obviously a better player overall than Maxey, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a realistic trade or that folks out there should be talking about including the teams fastest and most explosive rising star guard since Allen Iverson. Melton, in my opinion, is the best acquisition made so far this off-season even more so than PJ Tucker. They will both be helpful defensively, and PJ has the grit and toughness that the team needs, but a young and more athletic guy like Melton is what we can use for years to come.
At this point, it’s looking unlikely that Tobias will be moved in the off-season, although I wouldn’t be surprised if he finds himself on a new team by the trade deadline next season. That leaves a couple realistic options for trading that could potentially result in strengthening the bench and being the factor that allows the Sixers to make it past the 2nd round of the playoffs.
Thybulle (about 3.2 mil a year) korkmaz (about 5 mil a year), and Milton (just under 2 mil a year) together add up to a salary that is worthy of a solid true sixth man for the team.
I think we should be looking at another consistent scoring option off the bench like Dennis Schroder, Collin Sexton, or even a guy like Melo to just play 10-15 minutes a game and put down a few 3s when needed on a veteran contract. Montrezl Harrell would help in different ways too, but who knows how things will pan out. Just trust in Morey to build a solid bench and pull off the right moves at the right times.
